Within the framework of the MetaHeritage Project, the Digital Humanities Department at Friedrich Schiller University Jena and Heritage Hotels of Europe have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to strengthen collaboration between academia and the heritage tourism sector. The partnership brings together digital humanities expertise and a network of historic hotels that preserve and showcase Europe’s cultural legacy through authentic hospitality experiences.

Connecting Historic Places to Digital Innovation

As part of the cooperation, members of Heritage Hotels of Europe will be invited to join the MetaHeritage Innovation Database and be featured on the FSU Jena 4DBrowser Map. This will enhance visibility, support research, and enable new forms of digital storytelling around historic sites and regional heritage.

Creating New Opportunities for Collaboration

By linking researchers, heritage professionals, and tourism actors, the initiative supports knowledge exchange, promotes good practices, and explores how digital tools can enrich visitor experiences while preserving authenticity. The cooperation highlights the role of historic hotels as living heritage spaces and contributes to MetaHeritage’s mission of fostering innovation and interregional collaboration across Europe.
