herimap is a map-first directory of Europe’s privately owned historic houses — the castles, châteaux and manors that are family homes first and destinations second. Owners curate their own house, its events and what it offers, from a stay or a wedding to a film location, in six languages and with no paid placement. Underneath the map sits an open research dataset of 83,622 heritage sites across 45 countries, of which 23,493 are estimated to be privately owned, published under an open licence with its classification error rates measured against a national register and published alongside it. We work with national owners’ associations, heritage researchers and regional tourism bodies.
